Extractions

“As difficult as pulling teeth” is an old expression that is still used today. At the beginning of dentistry services, pulling teeth was the single most procedure performed. In those days, no one had discovered how important oral health was. Daily brushing was invented yet. People only saw dentists when there was a problem (pain). The only solution to the pain was to pull the offending tooth.

Anesthesia was also not available in those days. This fact alone is the main reason why people avoided going to the dentist in the first place. Thus, “as difficult as pulling teeth” became well known.

Fortunately, we now know how important oral health is, and we take better care of our teeth. Good oral health by itself has decreased the number of teeth pulled, as well as the many numbers of procedures available to heal injured or infected teeth.

Unfortunately, pulling teeth (extractions) cannot be avoided in all cases. Even in this day and age, some patients are still afraid of dentists. Dental fear is a real condition.

If a tooth extraction is needed now, it is virtually painless. The dentists at University Family Dental Studio are dedicated to the comfort and health of every patient. The extraction is usually a short procedure, and there are many choices for treatment and replacement.
