Sealants
It is simple to get children to brush their teeth. Right? Well, maybe not.
Even the best parents can have problems getting a child to brush as they should, and even the best of oral routines may not be enough to keep a child from getting cavities. Some children are more prone to cavities. Some have problems brushing the back teeth in their small mouth, and the nooks and crannies can be so tiny that brushing does not help. Due to these difficulties, children’s back teeth are more prone to developing cavities.
University Family Dental Studio offers dental sealants to help children and adolescents avoid plaque build-up. Most dental insurance companies cover sealants for children up to the age of 18.
Sealants are a rubbery substance that is applied to the teeth with a small brush. Once set up, the rubber seals inside the cracks and crevices, helping keep food particles from accumulating and bacteria from growing. The CDC (Center for Disease Control) reports a high rate of prevention from the use of sealants (up to 80% in the first two years and 50% up to four years. The sealants are monitored during routine visits. If the rubber cracks, it can easily be reapplied.
